Plans change, but love remains

Plans change, but love remains

There are times when we make plans with joy and hope, preparing our hearts to what we want or need to do. And yet, life and circumstances remind us that not everything is under our control.

This past Sunday was one of those moments. We had to cancel our joint service between Groveville and Crosswicks, a service prepared with great care and love. I know many of you were also getting ready, including those who had lovingly prepared their delicious dishes for our potluck luncheon. For all these reasons, the decision to cancel was especially difficult. As I shared in the video I posted online, canceling a service is never something I enjoy. I truly dislike it. However, caring for one another must always come first.

The Scripture reminds us: “The human mind plans the way, but the Lord directs the steps” (Proverbs 16:9). We plan and prepare, but God has the final word. Sometimes that word calls us not to move forward as planned, but to pause, to protect life, and to act in love.

For this reason, we have decided to place the joint service of our two churches on hold for now. Additionally, due to the possibility of another winter storm and very difficult weather conditions, it is very possible that we may need to cancel our in-person gatherings again this coming Sunday.

Please know that these decisions are made out of love and concern for everyone’s safety, especially for those who may be more vulnerable, those who might be put at risk by traveling in snow, ice, or severe weather. Loving one another sometimes means staying home and choosing safety over routine.

I kindly ask you to remain warm and safe during these days. Please prepare your homes in case of heavy snow, power outages, or interruptions to internet or gas service. Charge your devices, keep flashlights ready, have basic food and medications available, and take all necessary precautions. This is not about fear, but about wisdom and care.

We remain the Church even when we cannot gather in the building. We remain connected in prayer and in love.

Thank you for your understanding and your care for one another. Please stay attentive to our communications for updates.

Warmly,

Rev. David Gaitan
